NICAR is the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting, a program of the Investigative Reporters and Editors Inc. and the Missouri School of Journalism. Founded in 1989, the institute has trained thousands of journalists to analyze electronic databases. The institute offers hands-on training seminars throughout the U.S.A. and internationally, provides inexpensive government databases to working journalists, and publishes books, instructional materials, and a monthly newsletter called Uplink.

NICAR is supported by the fees it charges and grants from such donors as The Freedom Forum and The Knight Foundation.
